30-01-2010 - NBN Coffs Harbour 6.00pm News - A consortium is lobbying to be the first to access Australia's new high-speed National Broadband Network. The group says the north coast has the necessary population and innovation. The north coast's bid has been sent to Federal Minister for Broadband Communications Stephen Conroy. Industries like filmmaking and agriculture are 'calling out' for the technology. Prof Peter Croll, Southern Cross University, says some people are concerned that they will have to go offshore if they do not have this technology. Janelle Saffin, Federal Member for Page, says the north coast has the strong support of local government, the university, the private sector and health sector.

17-11-2009 - A meeting at the Lismore campus of Southern Cross University chaired by Professor Peter Croll agrees that Southern Cross University should take the lead in organising a submission for the first mainland roll-out of the National Broadband Network.

The meeting was attended by representatives of Southern Cross University, Coffs Harbour City Council, Tweed Shire Council, Lismore City Council, Page Electorate (representative of the Hon. Janelle Saffin), TAFE and Mayor of Lismore / President of Northern Organisation of Region of Councils Councillor Jenny Dowell.
